Director Biography – Jingjue Li (MY WIFE IS A CHICKEN)

E3ab332003 headshot

Jingjue is a Chinese poet who realized she wanted her voice to be heard visually.
Inspired by the French new wave to become a rule-breaking filmmaker, she dedicated herself to learning the rules so that she might break them more fully and artistically.
She wants to tell slice-of-life stories, but in an Avant-garde way.

Director Statement

I always like to jump out of my own life and explore the absurd and ironic side of a story. My Wife is a Chicken is just the kind of story I like to tell. This story is about how boring life actually is. And how much people like to follow by rules made by someone else. I’d like to jump out of the circle and question the meaning of everything. And this story encourages people to jump out of their life and look at what’s most important to themselves.
Sometimes we know that our life is full of boredom and lies, but we are just too afraid to say so. I want to say it really loud this time, but in a funny way.
