LGBTQ+ Festival Short Script: Dani, by Patrick C Clinton, Ny’Jayda Jones

In the aftermath of a brutal attack in a bar parking lot, Danielle “Dani” Scott refuses to see herself as broken, despite a world determined to convince her she needs fixing. As her girlfriend Celeste lies unconscious in a hospital bed, Dani begins to spiral. Haunted by the event and suffocated by a mother who denies both her pain and her identity, Dani moves between grief and resistance. When her younger brother Joel, struggling with his own identity after conversion therapy, reaches out to her, Dani is forced to confront more than her own survival. As she fights to hold onto herself, she must decide whether to retreat into isolation or become the voice she never had, standing against her mother’s belief that she needs fixing and proving she is not so easily broken.
