LGBT Best Scene Screenplay Reading: This is the Last Time, by Jeff Bretl

This screenplay is based on a true story, my story, about a gay boy who is repeated sexually abused throughout his childhood and how he breaks the chain of abuse within his family. An incredibly uplifting story about inner strength, the screenplay explores the conflicting feelings involved in long-term abuse. It tells the story of a 1970s childhood, set in a rural lake community in the heartland of the U.S. We follow the protagonist through this rural childhood to young adulthood in NYC exploring the emotional limitations and insights derived from victimhood. We see his journey through resignation to initiative, from fear to action.
