Short Film: THE FRUIT MACHINE, 16min., Canada, LGBT/Drama

During the 1950’s and 60’s, at the height of the Cold War, the Canadian government was doing everything it could to gain an advantage. Major shifts were happening within the RCMP, military, and civil services. A device was introduced to test the stress levels of workers by measuring pupillary response to certain images. This device was called: The Fruit Machine.

Marleau, a military hopeful, is forced to take one of these suspicious tests, under the scrutinizing eye of Captain Kovacs. On a projection screen, Marleau is shown pictures that range from the mundane to the profane — some of which trigger memories for Marleau. He finds himself re-living moments of his past relationship with his one who got away, a man named Sam.
