Played at the LGBT Documentary Short Film Festival on the Thursday August 31, 2017

Documentary filmmaking is entirely reliant on listening, responding and an openness to where the story wants to take you. It’s as exhilarating as it is terrifying. From conception to final product, the framework of this piece changed about half a dozen times and I wanted to quit just as many. Thank you to everyone who encouraged me to keep moving forward and for the reminders to just trust myself.
I spent the last 4 months shooting, editing and wrestling with this piece and I learned valuable lessons about myself as a filmmaker through the tumultuous process. Even though I was only there for a semester, my short stint in film school was certainly worth it! I know with absolute certainty that all I want to do is edit (other people’s work) and never again will I one-woman-band a production. I don’t belong behind a camera – I belong in a dark cave with my NLE software and lots of creative freedom!
