Any inclusion of an LGBTQ+ character in film is bound to cause controversy, but when the trailer for Atomic Blonde was released earlier this month – social media blew up. Why? Because the LGBTQ+ character in this film is played by Esquire’s Sexiest Woman Alive of 2007 and global Hollywood star Charlize Theron. To add to that, this isn’t just a stereotypical film about a gay woman; this is a film about a bisexual spy who beats up men and sleeps with women whilst she’s on the job. Some have called her the female John Wick, others have hailed her the female James Bond, but I say she’s more important than that. Here’s why.
